Does your toddler talk? Does your toddler scream to communicate?

When I looked down at my beautiful baby infant my heart soared. There is nothing in this world that can match the feelings of seeing your very own new born baby.

My baby girl was a wonderful infant. She really did not give me any unordinary problems.

When my baby was around two years old she suddenly changed.

What had happened to my wonderful sweet baby girl?

Yes I know there are the terrible two’s. I had another child, older and I remember when he went through the terrible two’s. Plus I remember when my sister’s children went through there terrible two’s but this was different.

My little toddle did not talk she screamed to communicate with me and anybody that was in her small life circle.

I know that many two year old children do not talk. They might start talking when they are 2 ½ or 3 years old but this was entirely different.

My family and friends suggested that I take my beautiful daughter to a doctor. I did and I am forever grateful to my family and friends for making the suggestion to me.

When it comes to children and parents some people would never think of becoming involved. As an outsider, they have a clearer window since they are not involved in the day to day care of the child.

The doctor immediately upon my description of how my child was acting and screaming to communicate plugged me into a Speech Therapy class.

The doctor also recommended a Child Psychologist.

For the next three years my life revolved around my daughter’s schedule of attending speech therapy three times a week.

Immediately following speech therapy we went directly to the Child Psychologist’s office.

The speech therapy and the Psychologist’s therapy combined achieved a wonderful miracle.

My daughter started to slowly start speaking using one or two words sentences. Gradually her vocabulary continued to build.

After she was in kindergarten and all throughout elementary school, she continued her speech therapy. Her visits to the Child Psychologist were now only twice a month.

As a mother and having lived through this trauma and believe me it was a trauma. I am happy to say my daughter, a young lady today, is working, owns her own car and is financially independent. I am very proud of her and could not imagine her not being in my life.

I say a strong thank you to the wonderful Speech Therapists that worked with her throughout the years.

I also say a strong thank you to the wonderful Child Psychologist who worked with my daughter throughout her younger years.

I do not know what would have happened to her if she would not have had this special care in her early years.

I strongly recommend to parents, if you have a child that you feel needs help in anyway get the child evaluated by a doctor immediately. It’s never too early to act.

Thank you for reading my article. Please feel free to check out my other articles. I would love to hear from you.

What types of speech pathology service are available in the UK? Do the speech therapy treatments differ from the ones that are available in other countries in the world? Speech pathology for stuttering has come along way in the last ten years and in this article I will be discussing the forms of therapy that are now available to people who stutter in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world.

Are you aware of just how many people in the UK have a stuttering problem? Do you know somebody who has a stutter or as some people call it a stammer? Do you have a stutter or stammer? Well the latest studies have reported that around one in every hundred people do in fact stutter, this is a huge number and stuttering is therefore much more widespread than the so called experts had thought in the past.

So what are the treatments for stuttering? For many a year the only form of treatment for stammering or stuttering was via a local speech therapy unit, these were normally located within a hospital. So why did this approach not work or satisfy the people who had a stutter? Quite simply, because the treatments that are offered through traditional speech therapists do not work, they do not help the person to achieve fluency.

I am not totally against speech therapy, I am sure that the speech therapists help many people each and every day. I can only go by my own experiences and of the people that I have spoken with, I personally attended speech therapy for fully fourteen years and was still stuttering at the end of this period, in fact the problem had become even more severe.

There are now many more stuttering therapy options available to people. These include attending one-to-one and group speech courses, some of which are run by people who have managed to overcome their own stutter. There are also self-help alternatives for people who feel that they do not have the confidence to attend any form of speech course.

The internet has meant that the types of therapy for stuttering have become universal with people from each country able to search on the major search engines, such as Google, for the latest stuttering treatments.

Steve Hill is a webmaster from Birmingham, he has interests in a number of websites including: stuttering, stuttering information and treatments for stuttering

Speech pathology jobs are expected to see a rise in coming years due to the growing population of aging people, who may end up more prone to conditions requiring a speech pathologist’s care. In this respect, you may be considering a career in speech pathology, and wondering how to get speech pathology jobs. There are a number of factors to consider like education and the nature of a speech pathologist’s work before you start looking for speech pathology jobs.

First, you should have an understanding about what speech pathology jobs entail. Speech pathology jobs usually entail assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech disorders. Also, there is a preventative aspect to speech pathology jobs in which the speech pathologist will work to prevent speech, language, cognitive, communication, swallowing, and other disorders. Most speech pathology jobs involve the speech pathologist working with those who cannot make speech sounds at all or those who cannot make them very clearly. A common example of a potential speech pathologist’s client would be a person struggling with a stuttering problem.

If you are looking for employment in a comfortable setting, speech pathology jobs can allow you to work in your own office. However, speech pathology jobs in hospitals or other medical settings will also allow you more flexibility and mobility as you are able to go from patient to patient. Even in schools, speech pathology jobs can involve going from classroom to classroom. Also, most speech pathology jobs will require you to work full-time, though there are some speech pathology jobs that allow you to work part-time or on a contract basis.

Speech pathology jobs are currently on the increase, and they can be found in a variety of settings. In 2002, almost half of all speech pathology jobs were found in educational settings ranging from preschools to universities. The remaining speech pathology jobs were found in medical facilities like hospitals, nursing care centers, and outpatient services. Some speech pathology jobs can even be found in day care centers and in private practice.

Almost all states require that a speech pathologist have a master’s degree before being offered speech pathology jobs. Also, speech pathology jobs in those states will require you to pass a licensing test in order to be able to accept speech pathology jobs. Other requirements for speech pathology jobs and licensing involve between 300 to 375 hours of supervised clinical experience and 9 months of post-graduate clinical experience. Plus, 38 states require continuing education so that you can keep renewing your license. Also, if you find speech pathology jobs where Medicaid, Medicare, and health insurance are factors in reimbursement, then licensure is a necessary requirement.

Speech and Language are vital to human interaction, socialization and communication. Often when someone has trouble with language or speech, we label them stupid, dumb or socially inept. Of course, anyone who has ever thought about this knows that such arbitrary labels are problematic, but they are very common stereotypes. When someone has a speech or language issue, they need help and therefore those who assist them are involved in a rewarding activity that has a huge multiplier effect.

How so you ask? Well, when someone can speak clearly after living for years with such troubles and adversity, they suddenly come out of their shell. The difference and the gift of speech is so obvious to those around them, it’s like the individual has been born again, given a fresh start and a new lease on life. I have several very dear friends who are speech pathologists and they are so very happy with their work and the good they do in the world. I am so proud of them for making a difference one person at a time.

If I were a younger man and had to choose a career, I think I might look into speech and language pathology, because, I know that in life helping others is one of the most fulfilling things you can do. And those who have degrees and get careers in speech pathology are well on their way to fulfilling the lives of others, as well as their own. Now, I do not wish to get to emotionally mushy over this issue, I am just saying that this has been my observation and that maybe you should look into it.
